Why You Get Professionals to Do the WHOLE Site
Daido Steel is a large Japanese manufacturer of specialty steel products, like parts for power tools.  Their main English language site is translated well, for the most part, and they have been careful to keep text to a mimimum.  Technical terms are translated well, and their is evidence of professional work throughout the site... but somebody slipped up on the Contact Us page.  The inquiry form is simple enough that you can't mess it up, but the instructions include this gem:

"If you can specify our sections, please write the name of them in the cell of Questions/Comments."

Which is followed by the clincher:

"You can't miss filling in * marked cells."  (Translation: "* = mandatory items")

Well, I certainly hope not!

oops!
"and their is evidence of"...

Here's another Japanese web site:
http://www.cca-kitakyushu.org/english/index.html

I thought the translation was pretty good until I checked out a page (http://www.cca-kitakyushu.org/english/research/index.html) and noticed it was slightly 'off'.

What do you think?

Have you ever been to China? A funny thing is that China, the country with the largest english-speaking population has a special way of using it, so for an asian person, that translation is actually ok.

The translation is hilarious and it's sometimes difficult to make sense out of it. Hey I'm not ridiculing them, this is probably done on some kind of translation software anyway.

Another reason why a professional and not an employee who is not a trained translator should translate your website. Employees who are bilingual or have not lived in there country for a while may be accustomed to things in English that do not translate to the foreign language. They may simply overlook them because they are used to it.
