Wikipedia provides a list of all the languages that the Harry Potter books have been translated into, and the names of the translators that did the work. Is there anyone out there who has read any of the HP books in translation and can give us a review? Especially helpful will be those comments that compare the translated work to the original text in English.
There are 65 languages on the list, including Zulu, Plattdeutsch, and Faroese. I'm hoping that the rush to meet the popular market hasn't "bruised" the translations. It has been known to happen that publishers with hot titles will forego some of the necessary steps, including a careful review of the translation, in order to meet release deadlines. The results aren't pretty, though they still sell lots of books.
Not on the list is Esperanto, though I thought I read elsewhere that someone had done that translation. Latin, however, is on the list. "Harry Potter et Philosphi Lapis" can be bought on Amazon.com. It joins the illustrious company of "Winnie Ille Pu" and "Cattus Petasatus" (The Cat in the hat).
