With this post I'm opening a place for you to report good translations found in print or on the Web. Bad translations are everywhere and are painful to behold. Good translations, on the other hand, are often unnoticed and unrewarded because they are so good. I don't mind self-promotion; if you're a good translator and want to pat yourself on the back, tell us where to see your work. Also, if there's a work or site you admire, let me and the other readers know.
To open the discussion, I refer you to the "Official Information Portal" of the Russian Republic of Bashkortostan. What's that? You didn't know there was a Bashkortostan? You will when you have read the excellent translation on their informative site. Now, if only they can get more translated pages so the English-language reader can actually click on some links. (Right now there are only two in the text; and one internal bookmark.) The only thing I can find wrong with the translation is the (non) conversion of numbers. The page says that the population of Bashkortostan is "4092,3 th. people ". That's 4.1 million, give or take a few thousand Bashkortostanis.
I also admire the fine English of high profile foreign news agencies such as Al-Jazeera (from Arabic) and Hurriyet (from Turkish). Not only good, but fast!
